Voices Rising: Students Lead the Way at AquaMeridian’s 9/20 Beach Cleanup & Leadership Showcase

On September 20, 2025, more than sixty students, families, and community members came together at Alameda Seaplane Lagoon for International Coastal Cleanup Day — and what unfolded was more than just a cleanup. It was a powerful moment of youth leadership, teamwork, and community spirit in action.

Morning Beach Cleanup The day began with coffee, pastries, and smiles as student leaders checked in volunteers and distributed tools. Thanks to Almanac Adventureland & Brewery Alameda, for sponsoring the morning pastries, and to the students who brought their favorite treats from a local bakery — your thoughtful contributions fueled the energy that carried us through the cleanup. Together, we spread out across the shoreline, collecting trash and debris that threaten marine life. Buckets filled, bags piled up, and the sense of teamwork grew stronger with every piece of plastic removed.

Student Leadership Showcase After the cleanup, everyone gathered at Almanac Beer Co.’s lounge for the Voice of Student Leadership Showcase. Six student clubs took the stage to share their projects and passions — from environmental advocacy to social impact. Each story reflected courage, creativity, and commitment. One highlight was Xiaohan’s heartfelt talk, capturing his journey of growth and dedication.

A Story of Community Support When AquaMeridian first reached out to Almanac about hosting a small promotion booth for our beach cleanup, we had no idea it would grow into a meaningful partnership. Inspired by three years of consistent beach cleanups and student leadership, Almanac created AquaMeridian Beer, opened their lounge for events, sponsored food and drinks, and committed to future support. Their generosity shows what can happen when community partners believe in young leaders.

Looking Ahead This year’s showcase was just the beginning. We’re excited to announce the Voice of Student Leadership Forum 2026 — a bigger, more impactful gathering to amplify student voices, strengthen community partnerships, and empower even more young leaders.

Final Thoughts The 9/20 event was a turning point. Students didn’t just show up; they led, inspired, and reminded us all that their voices do matter. Backed by parents, partners, and the community, they turned a simple cleanup into a movement of action, courage, and hope. This is what youth leadership looks like — and it’s only the beginning.

Thank you, Almanac, for opening your space, fueling our energy, and showing how powerful it is when local businesses stand with youth-led conservation.

Special thanks as well to our longtime partners, CASA and DOER Marine, whose unwavering support contunuess to help AquaMeridian grow and empower student leaders year after year.
