2024 Lunar New Year Jar Painting Extravaganza Fundraiser!

Thanks to our sponsor

As we gear up for the Year of the Dragon celebration, we're excited to give back to our community with the 'Lunar New Year Jar Painting Extravaganza' fundraiser. This event aims to support two meaningful causes: the Monterey Giant Kelp Restoration Project (G2KR) and adoptive families through Children’s Hope. We are incredibly grateful for the generous material sponsorship provided by our corporate company. The boxes filled with art supplies, including numerous glass jars, Liquitex Acrylic paint colors, Acrylic pens in various colors and sizes, and Krylon triple-thick crystal clear glaze spray, are invaluable. With our limited budget, these resources are vital in making this event a reality, enabling us to have a positive impact on our community.

Our teamwork

Our corporate sponsor went above and beyond by sponsoring all the supplies and actively participating in the creation of the art on the jars. With everyone contributing their own unique dragon design, imbued with love and creativity, this event has become a truly inspirational experience.

The event also featured an educational presentation by Mr. Keith Rootsaert, the leader of the Giant Giant Kelp Restoration project. He shared insights into the Monterey kelp restoration efforts, highlighting the remarkable achievement of removing approximately 749 thousand urchins, restoring 11 acres of kelp forest. The Giant Giant Kelp Restoration Project (G2KR), a non-profit organization, has led these restoration endeavors, uniting a community of over 707 divers, with 236 certified to carefully cull urchins using hammers while minimizing harm to the ecosystem. It is a privilege for us to support their dedicated efforts in safeguarding our ocean ecosystem.

Youth help youth

Our teens from Shine4Love Teens Club are diligently continuing our fundraising efforts by creating more jars for the cause. Now in its fourth year, the Zodiac Lunar New Year mason jar project has attracted even younger participants, with children as young as 5th and 6th graders joining the creation team. Guided by the experienced artistic leaders, they learn to intricately draw the dragon and master the delicate line strokes, as well as incorporate additional accent elements onto the jar. Through this process, they not only nurture their artistic abilities but also contribute their talents to assist other children and families in need. All proceeds from the jars created by our teens will go towards supporting Village of the Stars, a non-profit organization to support American families who face challenges in adopting and raising children from abroad, particularly focusing on children with special needs in Indiana. The organization provides a range of services, including advocacy for families and children, cultural and linguistic support, community resource matching, and financial assistance. This initiative reflects our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others and supporting families in need within our community.
