Hands-on Robotics for Ocean Innovation

A Special Event for National Robotics Week

On April 4, AquaMeridian was pleased to partner with CP Mentorship to bring together students and families for an engaging, hands-on event celebrating National Robotics Week at the Fremont Library.

The event opened with a guest talk by Faye Lin, founder of AquaMeridian US. In her talk, “Robotics for the Real World,” she shared how robotics can extend what humans can do — not replace them — especially when it comes to tackling real environmental challenges.

Faye also walked through her own journey, from early underwater exploration to developing ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) used in ocean research and conservation. She shared how these tools can support divers, map ocean environments, and help scale efforts like kelp restoration — giving attendees a real-world perspective on how robotics connects to ocean impact.

Hands-On Workshops

After the talk, participants rotated through hands-on sessions designed to introduce the fundamentals of robotics:

  • Software — Students explored block-based programming and learned how to control robot movement using simple commands.

  • CAD Design — Participants created 3D models using Tinkercad, learning how digital design translates into real-world builds.

  • Real-World Applications — This session tied everything together, showing how robotics is already being used to solve problems in areas like environmental monitoring and ocean conservation.

Live Robot Playtesting

The workshop wrapped up with a playtesting session where attendees got to interact directly with different types of robots, including robot dogs, multi-legged robots, and small programmable vehicles.

This was a highlight for many — seeing how robots move, respond, and behave in real time helped connect what they learned to real-world applications.

Thank You

At AquaMeridian, we believe in making science and technology accessible, hands-on, and connected to real-world impact — especially when it comes to protecting our oceans.
