June 13 Spring Sendoff: A Youth Day of Research, Cleanup & Conservation
Join AquaMeridian for our final beach cleanup of the semester — a special student-led morning featuring a research presentation by an award-winning student scientist and a hands-on bird conservation craft station, all along the Alameda shoreline.
Featured Student Speaker: Aria Gokani, 2026 AquaMeridian Ocean Award recipient, will present her research on biodegradable trash bag alternatives designed specifically for beach cleanups — showing how student innovation can solve real environmental problems.
Bird Conservation Craft Station: After the cleanup, participants can join an optional hands-on activity exploring the impact of window strikes on Bay Area birds. Using sanitized beach trash collected during the cleanup, participants will create symbolic birds while learning about this often-invisible conservation challenge. Led by DOER Marine and community partners.

About the Bird Craft Activity
Participants will create small symbolic birds from sanitized beach trash as a creative way to learn about bird strikes, pollution, and urban environmental challenges affecting Bay Area wildlife. This optional 30-minute activity connects the trash we collect on the beach to broader conservation issues happening in our own communities.
