Beach Cleanup: How to Prepare and What to Expect

Beach cleanups are a great way to help protect the environment and ensure that our coastlines remain clean and healthy.

What to Bring and Wear?

  1. Before participating in our event, everyone must register first and sign the liability waiver during the registration process.

  2. Volunteer service form if you need service hours from the event.

  3. Gloves (like gardening gloves or leather work gloves)

  4. Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Closed-toe shoes are a must as you'll be walking on sand and rocks.

  5. Sun protection: Be sure to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

Note: Please bring your own supplies if you have them! We have a very limited supply of buckets and grabbers on site. We will also provide water and snacks for you to enjoy during the event.

What to Expect

  1. Please arrive at the park a little before 10 AM to to check in at our designated table. If you have registered for the tour, don't forget to collect your colored wristband.

  2. There are two convenient parking options available: free parking along the road near the park or parking at DOER Marine on 650 W Tower Ave, then take a short walk to the park.

  3. We kindly request that you pick up every piece of human-created trash you come across, no matter how small.

  4. To ensure efficient data collection, please assign one person in your group for the Clean Swell® effort or take turns. This will help build an accurate understanding of our oceans and coastlines by logging items and capturing a snapshot of the littering problem.

  5. Be sure not to miss the post-event sharing circle at approximately 11:30am, where we eagerly anticipate to share our data and experiences, and capture memorable pictures with the trash we collected.

Download “Clean Swell”

To ensure smooth recording of litter collected during the event, please download the Clean Swell® app and create an account beforehand. By doing so, you will be making a valuable contribution to the global fight against ocean pollution, as researchers and advocates rely on this data to tackle the issue at a large scale.
