April 12 Earth Month Cleanup Recap: Restoring Shores, Rescuing Wildlife, Reconnecting Community
April 13th, 2025.
On April 12, our incredible volunteers gathered for a powerful Earth Month beach cleanup. We kicked off the day with fresh Starbucks coffee and a light breakfast to fuel the good vibes and hard work ahead.
Over time, this has become part of our philosophy: when we feel cared for and energized, it’s easier to pass that care on to nature.
We’ve been working hard to make our cleanups more efficient and convenient. We rolled out brand new foldable, durable grabbers, clean buckets, gloves, and, as always, offered snacks and water to keep everyone going strong. Our goal is to create a caring and well-equipped environment, where volunteers feel appreciated, energized, and ready to make a difference.
And wow, did they show up. We found all kinds of debris, from seven old tires and rusty garden chairs to derelict fishing gear and even a 10-foot stick with huge rusty nails. A particularly touching moment came when a volunteer spotted an injured gull. With the help of Liz Taylor, our partner and the President of DOER Marine, Alameda Animal Rescue quickly responded onsite to care for the bird.
To celebrate our incredible returning volunteers, we handed out adorable otter plushies, sponsored by our friends at the Giant Giant Kelp Restoration Project. We named them our 2025 Blue Crew MVPs—your dedication means the world to us.
These events aren’t just about picking up trash. They’re about community, care, and showing up for what matters. When we create space to care for each other, we become even better at caring for the Earth.
We believe in caring for ourselves first, so we can give that same care and energy back to nature. We’d love your help to keep the momentum going. If you'd like to support what we do, please consider making a donation—$5, $10, $25, $50, or any amount that feels right to you, every bit helps us stay strong for future cleanups.
Doing good feels even better when we do it together.
