Shark Fin Banning Awareness

Shark finning is the practice of removing the fins from sharks and discarding the rest of the shark's body at sea. The fins are then used to make shark fin soup, a traditional delicacy in some countries. Shark finning is a controversial practice because it is often done in a way that is wasteful and harmful to the sharks. Many species of sharks are now endangered due to overfishing and finning, and the demand for shark fin soup is a major contributor to this problem.

In an effort to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of shark finning, Faye and her peers organized and hosted an educational event during her time in middle school in 2018. The event aimed to support the work of Sharon Kowk and AquaMeridian Hong Kong's campaign, FIN-ished, and banning shark fin in California. Through this event, they sought to educate and inform the public about the devastating impact of shark finning on marine ecosystems and the urgent need to take action to protect these important species.

In order to organize the event, Faye invited four other girls from school to help out at Milk & Honey Cafe. They also created posters showcasing Sharon's efforts to ban shark finning and elephant walk demonstration. They also made a spinning wheel with small prizes that drew in a lot of young children. The girls put a lot of effort into making the event educational and fun, and it turned out to be one of the most fulfilling events they had ever organized.

Every little bit helps! By getting involved in ocean advocacy at a young age, you can make a real difference in the health of our oceans.
